According the Civil Defense Coordinator, Charlie Conerly, Gustav is tracking faster than previously predicted. Marion County residents should be prepared to start feeling the effects of Gustav around 3 a.m. Monday morning (9/1). By 7 a.m. we'll be experiencing tropical force winds with the strongest impact coming in around approximately 11 a.m. into the late afternoon. Marion County may also receive up to as much as 12 inches of rain throughout the storm's existence.
Because of increased speed, the Red Cross shelter at St. John the Baptist Church in Expose will open at 8 p.m. this evening. Hurricane Creek Baptist Church and Improve Baptist Church will also open their doors for local residents this evening at 8 p.m.
In Lamar County, Oak Grove High School will open at 8 p.m. tonight for those seeking shelter.
